Quote of the Month:
“I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.” – Thomas Jefferson
This quote by Thomas Jefferson means that what people often call “luck” is usually the result of effort and persistence. Success doesn’t simply happen by chance; instead, the more someone works, prepares, and puts themselves in situations where opportunities can arise, the “luckier” they appear to others. Hard work increases skills, knowledge, and exposure to opportunities, which makes positive outcomes more likely. In this sense, luck is not purely random, it is often created through dedication, discipline, and consistent effort. Florida cattlemen and women prove this every day.
Cattle were brought to our great state more than 500 years ago, and they are still here today, this is no accident. The hard work and persistence of the people who wake up every morning loving this way of life has allowed our industry to not only survive, but to thrive. The Florida Cattlemen’s Association is no different. Our 92-year existence is proof that cattlemen care about our industry, and they will #LeadTheWay and work hard to ensure that our families and the cattle that graze our land will continue to be here for another 500 years.
The past and future success of our industry has always depended on how we face and deal with the challenges that seem to arise from the pressure from development, environmental groups, pests, water issues, and the list goes on. But I am confident that Florida cattlemen are prepared for these challenges.
All year long I have been preaching about how we need to have a strong presence in Tallahassee and in Washington, and that one way we can achieve this is by supporting, educating, and building relationships with our legislators through fundraising. That is why the FCA Fun N Gun event was created, and this year’s event, held at the Florida State Fairgrounds on March 7, was a HUGE success.

Once again, cattlemen and women participated and invited their neighbors and local businesses to attend. More than 400 people enjoyed a Quincey Cattle Beef prime ribeye and participated in raffles, a live auction, and a silent auction, making the event the success that it was. Thank you to all who purchased tables and sponsored the different areas of this event.
And thank you to all the volunteers who proved Thomas Jefferson’s quote true, showing that the harder we work, the luckier we get. The funds raised at the Fun N Gun will not only help the Florida Cattlemen’s Foundation further its philanthropic goals. They will also allow the Florida Cow PAC to help elect and re-elect more agriculture-friendly leaders, ensuring our cattle businesses will thrive in our ever-changing state.
Finally, thank you to all the volunteers, you know who you are, who helped implement the Fun N Gun. The Florida cattle industry was greatly rewarded by your dedication, discipline, and consistent effort.
Once again, thank you to the FCA membership for allowing me to serve this great organization.
Sincerely,
Rick Moyer
