The Headquarters' Range: June 2026

Greetings from Tallahassee—and elsewhere.

Needless to say, in a legislative year that was intended to run from January through March, we now find ourselves, still working, months later and well into the start of summer. As of this writing, we are still awaiting final resolution on the state budget, and Governor DeSantis has called the Legislature back to address several outstanding issues. It has certainly been an interesting—and at times unpredictable—year in Tallahassee, reflective of the broader political climate across the country.

That said, all indications point to a strong legislative session for Florida agriculture. We have successfully passed another solid Florida Farm Bill and worked to hold off proposals that could have posed challenges to our industry. Early signs also suggest that funding for the Florida Cattle Enhancement Board will remain strong, along with continued support for our partners at FDACS and the University of Florida—both critical to the success of Florida’s cattle industry.

One issue still under discussion is the potential elimination or restructuring of property taxes, including homestead exemptions. This conversation is evolving and being framed in a number of different ways, but please know that we are actively engaged and vigilant. Our priority is clear: to ensure that any changes do not negatively impact private landowners, land managers, or weaken Florida’s Greenbelt protections.

Looking ahead, we are well positioned with a strong legislative delegation that includes individuals who understand and support our industry. Much of that success is directly tied to the strength and effectiveness of the Florida COW PAC. Maintaining a seat at the table in Tallahassee requires engagement, and the PAC plays a critical role in that effort. We could have as many as 18 FCA members in next year’s Legislature, and we are actively supporting them all.

As we approach Convention, I encourage you to participate in supporting the PAC—whether through the bull sale credit auction, purchasing a PAC tie or wild rag, making a direct contribution with your membership, or taking part in the annual Fun & Gun. These efforts ensure that we remain effective in communicating with decision-makers and advocating for our industry.

Simply put, without the support of members like you, our success in Tallahassee would not be possible.
