Quote of the Month
“It's amazing what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit."
In today’s world, self-promotion often overshadows teamwork. On social media and sometimes even in our personal and professional lives, the desire for recognition can become a distraction from meaningful progress. I’ve seen firsthand how jealousy and the pursuit of credit can damage relationships, reduce productivity, and hinder forward movement.
Fortunately, within the Florida Cattlemen’s Association, I continue to see a different story unfold—one built on humility, teamwork, and service. Across the state, cattle producers are working together not for attention, but for the greater good of our industry. Their selfless dedication is not only admirable, it’s inspiring.
As I travel to county associations, I see members #LeadingTheWay. Members are mentoring each other and the next generation, strengthening local organizations, and working side by side to protect the way of life that we love, and the land and animals that we enjoy being stewards over. Youth are supporting one another through JFCA activities, cheering each other on, and building lifelong friendships rooted in shared purpose. This spirit of cooperation is what keeps our grassroots organization strong.
A special shout out to the Sumter County Cattlemen’s Association for hosting a successful and well-attended meeting. One of the evening's highlights was the revitalization of their Junior Florida Cattlemen's Association—an encouraging sign for the future. I want to recognize Jim and Tyler McAlister, Curtis Toman, and the entire SCCA team for their continued efforts. Your commitment to growing your association and investing in the next generation does not go unnoticed.
Recently, Dusty and I, along with Rick Hartman, Chair of the Florida Beef Council, and Deanne Maples, FBC Chief Executive Officer, traveled to Montgomery, Alabama for the NCBA Region 2 Meeting, hosted by the Alabama Cattlemen's Association. Not long after, we attended the Florida Beef Council Board of Directors Meeting and the FCA Fall Quarterly in Okeechobee. These events were filled with productive discussions on critical issues including environmental challenges, animal health concerns like tick-borne diseases and the New-World Screwworm update, research and education, marketing strategies, public relations initiatives, and membership growth, retention, and involvement.
Over 160 members gathered, bringing energy and ideas to the table. Thank you to Marshal Sewell from "Mind Your Melon" for delivering a powerful keynote address and helping bring mental health awareness to the agriculture community. And a big thank you to Lucy Bowers, FCW President, and the Seminole Tribe of Florida, for hosting a memorable steak-out, where more than 250 steaks were served. It was fantastic evening of fellowship and celebration.
On a personal note, I'd also like to thank you my wife, Leslie, for hosting FCA's first quarterly Bible study. The turnout was strong, and the discussion meaningful. It was a blessing to witness the participation and support of this new ministry. I pray even more members will attend the next one and be encouraged through the Word of God.
If you attended the Fall Quarterly, thank you for #LeadingTheWay. If you couldn't make it, I invite you to join us for the next quarterly meeting on Thursday, December 4th in Ocala. Please check the FCA website for details, and don't forget to bring someone along. These gatherings are a great opportunity to learn, connect, and see the many ways people across our state are working to support our industry.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve and help #LeadTheWay for the Florida Cattlemen's Association.
Sincerely,
Rick Moyer
