FCW Report

Hello fellow CattleWomen,

It never ceases to amaze me at what an outstanding group of ladies we have in our Florida CattleWomen Association!

I could not have been more proud than to represent our Florida CattleWomen’s Association as your State President at the NCBA/ANCW National Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. What a great time networking and learning with fellow Cattlewomen from all across our great nation.

I wanted to share a few of our recognitions and events held throughout the week. A big congratulations goes out to a number of our Florida Folks! Our UF Gator Collegiate girl Eden Miller of Alachua County was elected to serve as the BOD ANCW Collegiate Representative, our very own Reba Mazak was proudly selected as the 2019 ANCW Vice President, our former Florida Beef Ambassador Ryan Beany was recognized at the Best of Beef Breakfast as a National Beef Collegiate Advocate, then Reba Mazak, Casie Holloway and myself were awarded the Women in Leadership Award and was also presented with ANCW Lifetime pins, I was also selected to proudly represent ANCW as the Region II Director. The Florida Seminole Indian CattleWomen were represented well by Lucy Bowers, and the UF Gator Collegiate Girls came in full force! We heard from great speakers, talked with other state CattleWomen about their achievements and goals, and discussed the upcoming WIRED (Women in Ranching education development) program and Region II Meeting to be held in our great state of Florida on April 5th, 6th, and 7th! To top it all off we heard a great presentation from cattleman Terry Bradshaw in the opening session, enjoyed a great ANCW tour of the sugarcane Plantation and Zero Brahman Ranch, I met Temple Grandin and Zippy Duval and was honored to have been a guest of Sage Gray with Rabo at a great night at the World War II Museum. What a great week!

The morning after I arrived home I had the privilege of interviewing some of our finest youth with Lauren Dillard Butler at the Florida State Fair for the FCW Jan Dillard memorial scholarship. It will be an honor to present the recipient of the award at the Champion of Champions awards banquet. The Month of February is scheduled to be eventful with Beef samples to be given at the FCW State Fair Booth and the Grand Opening of the FARM exhibit at the Glaziers Children’s Museum, where we will be able to share our family Beef story and read to the children about where their Beef comes from before it reaches the grocery store. A miniature scale farm/ranch is connected to a miniature scale Publix supermarket. So much fun and education!

The FCW’s participation as a sponsor in the March 16th and 17th, SPRING Savage Race at Little Everglades Ranch has been rescheduled with the goal of a FCW sponsorship in the FALL Savage Race. We will keep you posted as we have more information in the coming month. A huge Thank You goes out to the generosity of our Fun Clay sponsors as listed, this fundraiser was a great success!

A Florida CattleWomen looks forward to the times of year when new life is being born, the marking and branding, the weaning, and the ever changing events on the ranch. She gives so much of herself to the cattle industry all while molding and guiding her children and grandchildren with family values. From the cooking and feeding of the cow crews to taking care of the business bookkeeping, there are many task at hand and if ask, our Florida Cattlewomen would not change their lifestyle one bit, but hope their grandchildren would carry on these same traditions and work ethics to their children. I believe it is so important for us to showcase these strong Florida Cattlewomen whom are the backbone of the families behind the Beef. This months showcase of a “Florida Woman In Ranching” is Mrs. Marcia Lightsey of LakeWales, FL.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future” Proverbs 31:25
