Junior News and Report
Hello Cattlemen! I am Julia Norman. I am seventeen years old and I go to Lakeland Senior High School (Go Dreadnaughts!!). I have been involved in the beef industry for as long as I can remember. My family has raised commercial cows here in Polk County for a very long time and as I got older I started to help raise and take care of these delightful four-legged animals. In 2014, I won the Brangus heifer at the Polk County Cattlemen’s dinner, so I had the opportunity to show her at our County Fair. From there I began to love showing, taking care of, and learning more about these amazing animals. I started breeding her as soon as I could. I then showed a purebred Brahman bull, a Shorthorn Plus heifer, and now I currently show two purebred Brahman heifers and a purebred Brahman bull. I travel all over Florida showing and advocating this great industry. This past summer I realized I wanted to become even more involved in the cattle industry, so I applied and interviewed to become a board member in the Junior Florida Cattlemen’s Association. Luckily I got a spot and I am more than thrilled to work with all the other people on the board this year.
Since our year started we have already had an amazing educational board retreat and training in Homosassa, we have attended a quarterly meeting in my home county, we’ve had a beef show in Okeechobee, and just recently on the 22nd we had a JFCA Fall Field Day at Kempfer Cattle Company. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the Kempfer Family for hosting our Fall Field Day and for all the volunteers that helped put it together and execute an amazing day! We had lots of educational activities and an amazing tour of an outstanding family cattle operation.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Florida Cattlemen’s Ranch Rodeo Finals in Kissimmee on the 28th and 29th and to seeing everyone back in Kissimmee on October 5th and 6th at the Kowtown Classic Cattle Show, the next show in the JFCA Points Series!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and easy transition into fall. I also hope as a Junior Cattlemen I can continue to do my part day to day to make the Florida Cattle Industry better. Remember show your passion!
