FCW Report May 2019
Hello everyone! Wow! What a busy past month our Florida CattleWomen have had! We started off the new month by gathering for the annual Tallahassee legislative quarterly with “Boots on the Hill” and our FCW meetings. We had a great time speaking to our legislators about what’s important to the families behind the beef! I was then able to attend the Hendry County CattleWomen’s first annual fundraiser and what an outstanding group they are. I then had the honor of carrying out the installation of officers at the Lake County CattleWomens Association where they are on the move to make great things happen!
That same week was the Sumter County CattleWomen’s Gala and was very honored to attend and represent FCW! As the ANCW Region II Director, it was such an honor to be able to hold the Southern Region Meeting here in our great state of Florida at the Beef teaching unit at UF, and what a great turnout we had! We had great fellowship with amazing and influential speakers. One of our special guest to join us was the ANCW President-Elect Mrs. Evelyn Greene from Alabama, we enjoyed her encouraging message to the ladies about being involved in your Cattle- Women’s association and the rewards you will receive. During the meeting we had an amazing group of young leaders within our Florida cattle industry speak of their accomplishments these young folks included Ryan Beany CBAP, Molly McKettrick Jr. Beef Ambassador, Eden Miller ANCW Collegiate Representative, and Shelby Howell the GCCW President, they are our upcoming voices that will represent our Beef industry well! We had a great leadership course presented by Charlotte Emerson CALS UF and to top off our meeting we finished up with our very own Deanne Maples and Sarah Krieger of the Florida Beef Council preparing our dinner in a cooking demo and teaching about “ Chuck knows Beef”.
We then moved on to day 2 and 3 with something that has been so important to me as FCW President and that is to showcase and share who we are as working Ranch Women, so as you can imagine when ANCW talked about having a Symposium I immediately said we need this in Florida!! So I was so excited to work with Reba Mazak President Elect of ANCW, the FCW, and many others on the WIRED “Women in Ranching Education and Development, I knew it would be perfect for Florida and the southeast CattleWomen, and it was! The ladies absolutely loved every minute from Dr. Thrifts hands on demonstrations of working cattle and Jesse Savalls teachings of bull selections, Jill Ginn on Beef geonomics, leaving your legacy by Jonathon Jarrell, a wonderful lunch provided by Farm Credit, and one of the sweetest cookie tables for break time by FCW Becky Finley’s Coosie Belles!!
If that wasn’t enough good eating, the Gator Collegiate CattleWomen hosted a wonderful steak dinner for all the attendees! The final day was just as amazing as we started off with pastor Billy Keith in a Sunday worship service then lead into Dr. LuJean Waters demonstration on cattle health and by using LuLu the cow simulator on how to assist in difficult calving situations.
We wrapped up the event with several influential women in Ranchings testimonials, Renee Strickland producer, Jill Ginn of Neogen, and Carol Osgood cowhand for Deseret Ranch! Thank You to the many sponsors for the ANCW Region II and WIRED as well!! Please remember ladies we are running our FCW Membership drive again this year, with great prizes to be awarded!! So please join FCW!
