Sweetheart’s May Message
It was so good being able to see most of you at the quarterly in Tallahassee!
This was my first time going to Tallahassee and walking around the capitol, and it was definitely an amazing experience. When talking with the senators, you find out how passionate our cattlemen are about issues that will later on affect us.
After leaving Tallahassee, I had the opportunity to speak with fourth graders at Dr. Hal Phillips’ ranch about beef by-products and about the nutritional value of beef. Students were able to get a tour of Dr. Phillips’ ranch and then Hailey Tomkow, the Polk County Cattlemen’s Sweetheart, and I gave a presentation about beef by-products and nutrition. Students then enjoyed a nice, juicy hamburger for lunch. Dr. Phillips and his family did a wonderful job at hosting this day for the students.
I was able to join Ashley Hughes as she presented a partnership with the Tampa Junior League. We helped prepare a beef appetizer for the members of the League for “Girls Gone Grilling.” Ashley does such a wonderful job representing the Beef Council.
In April, I am looking forward to attending the Junior Cattlemen’s Field Day, which I hope to see a lot of the junior members at, and I will also get to meet all the of new Sweetheart contestants.
