Sweetheart’s May Message

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!
Time is flying by. I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by and how close we are to Convention. We have been so busy in Tallahassee!
First, I got to attend the National Foundation for Women Legislators reception at the Old Capitol, where they had a delicious Fresh From Florida reception. There I got to interview Florida State Representative Harrell, as well as New Jersey State Senator Diane Allen, current Chair of the NFWL, for Southeast Ag Net.
Our cowboy street party in Tallahassee was a great success! We had swamp cabbage, roast beef sandwiches, meatballs, and lots of great food and company. The industry receives so many compliments around the Capitol and is constantly complimented on the politeness and respect of our members. I am proud to be part of such an amazing industry. We also had a great time spreading out and talking to our Senators and Representatives about important issues affecting the cattle industry in Florida. It was great to see cowboy hats all over the Capitol!
I have been able to attend several meetings to discuss political issues, including with Adam Putnam, the Governor, Speaker Crissafulli, the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Financial Officer Atwater, Representatives Goodson, Combee, Albritton, Senators Grimsley, Soto, and several other legislators. It has been such a privilege to meet and work with these people.
I have also represented the Cattlemen’s Association at several fundraisers and events, including Florida Farm Bureau Day at the Capitol, which had a reception featuring multiple Florida ag industries including strawberries, ice cream, seafood, and of course beef. Thanks to everyone who helped cook and serve sliders at the event! I also attended a fundraiser for Adam Putnam, and got to visit the Governor’s Mansion before the annual AIF party. I also stood in House and Senate committee meetings to represent all of the Florida Cattlemen. It was a great honor and responsibility to speak on behalf of the association.
I look forward to many more events and can’t wait to see everyone at Convention!
God Bless,
Katey McClenny
