Sweetheart’s June Message
This past month wrapped up the 2015 legislative session, and what a session to call my first! While there were very few ag bills passed despite hard work and good legislation on the part of the agriculture industry, I greatly enjoyed watching and being a part of the process. I would like to commend our Brevard County cattleman, Speaker Steve Crisafulli, on a job well done in the Florida House. I met so many wonderful people in the capital city and can’t thank Sam Ard enough for asking me to be his intern! I learned so much that I will take with me for a lifetime.
Last month was also Ag Literacy Day. We met at Florida’s Historic Old Capitol with Commissioner Putnam to read the Ag Literacy Day book. This year covered livestock from pigs to chickens to sheep to cattle. We had a group of 4th graders we read to and they absolutely loved it! I love teaching kids the facts about our industry. If you did not participate this year I highly suggest signing up with an elementary school next year to read the designated book. It is such a great way to get the right information out and teach our future leaders.
I cannot wait to see all of you at Convention! Good luck to all of the county sweethearts and enjoy every moment!
