September Sweetheart Message
My oh my! My first month as your FCA Sweetheart has flown by.
My summer has been extremely busy, but I’m not complaining! I finished my internship with Florida 4-H, went to the Ona Field Day, and helped out at the JFCA point series show in Tampa. What do all these things have in common? YOUTH! In the past, I have participated as a youth at both the Ona Field Day, as well as a few of the point series shows. Upon arriving at both of these events, my heart was filled with joy to see how much they have grown in just a few years!
At Ona, I worked the CattleWomen’s booth and talked about Beef By-Products showing students that we get much more than steaks and hamburgers. I love teaching kids the importance of the beef industry and how we use beef by-products in everyday life.
This year the JFCA points series kickoff show moved to Tampa because they outgrew the Kissimmee show ring, so I knew it was going to be big, I just did not realize how BIG! There were almost 300 participants and about 400 head of cattle!
Not only was this a beef show, but we also held the JFCA officer elections where we had 12 members go through a screening process, as well as the Beef Ambassador contest took place here too. To say it was a busy weekend is an understatement.
I believe that the youth are a key component to the success of our industry. We need to continue teach kids about our industry and encourage them to pursue a career in the agricultural community. I myself have grown to love the beef and cattle industry, and hope to show future generations how they can become involved too!
Shout out to all the youth! Keep up the hard work, let me know if you need anything, & GOOD LUCK!
I look forward to the months ahead, #GoBEEF!
