Dec. Sweetheart Message

As 2016 comes to an end, I would like to take this time to reflect on my journey as Sweetheart thus far. One of my favorite topics to discuss with consumers is beef by-products. Sometimes I think it is easy for people to forget that we are producing much more than beef. We are producing things that we use every day such as toothpaste, shampoos, conditioners, gelatin, leather, makeup and so much more! This topic is something that everyone can relate to whether they are 8 years old or 28 years old. I have traveled the state talking to students of all ages about where the beef they eat comes from and how they support the beef and cattle industry every day.

One of my favorite visits this year was when I participated in Marion County’s Ag Literacy Day back in November. I read a short story to the kids and then answered all of their questions. I always am amazed at how many questions the kids have about their food and where it comes from.

Another favorite was announcing the whip popping contest at the Cowboy Heritage Festival and Ranch Rodeo in Kissimmee. We had contestants from the ages of 5 all the way to 84 years old! It is so exciting to see contestants of all ages embracing our heritage and wanting to show off their tricks! I was truly impressed by every single one of the contestants, although I am still in need of some lessons on how to pop a whip!

As we say goodbye to 2016, and hello to 2017, I would like to thank everyone for their continued encouragement and support.

As the new year begins please feel free to contact me at sjdailey@ufl.edu about events you would like me to attend. Don’t forget to LIKE the Florida Cattlemen’s Sweetheart page on Facebook and Instagram. Go Gators! Go BEEF!

Happy Holidays!
