June FCW Report

Are you ready for the convention? I am! Sandy beaches, cool water and meetings that give you the latest information from the Beef Industry. Wahoo! This year we are greeting you in true CattleWomen fashion; our Ice Cream Social and a fashion show! We are giving away a diamond bracelet, thanks to the Florida Livestock Association, at our Board of Directors meeting as well as some other goodies. It is definitely worth your while to attend and find out what your state officers are up to! We welcome all of our Florida CattleWomen to attend, and even if you aren’t a member come and see what we are doing to help promote our industry. I think that you will be pleased with what we have done and what we are planning for the future. Who knows, you might even decide to be a part of an organization that really gets things done!

In April Wendy Petteway, Lindsey John and I attended the ANCW Region II meeting in Dahlonega, GA. Our own Melissa Miller organized and planned a great weekend for us. Besides the great camaraderie, we visited a winery and then attended the ‘Bear in the Square’ Festival in downtown Dahlonega. There were plenty of craftsmen and women selling their wares, but what was truly amazing were the young people walking around with fiddles, banjos and guitars on their backs. They would wander around and when two or three met up they would decide on some music and begin playing bluegrass music right where they stood. It was incredible! The John Campbell Folk Art School was there showing kids how to throw pots, how instruments were made, and other crafts that were from their rich past in the area. It was a beautiful day and one that I will remember for a long while.

With no phones and no T.V.s we had plenty of time to talk and learn about social media. There were several younger women there that were very social media savvy and were able to walk some of us through how to use Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. It was one of the best times I have had while trying to understand technology. Learning is at its best when you are eating cookies, cake and laughing up a storm! The best part of it all, though, is that next year we are going to host the Region II meeting! I will need some fun women to plan our activities and find some awesome places to take the attendees to. Come to the Board of Director’s meeting on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. to give us some ideas and to be a part of planning the best ever Region II meeting ever!

So, come on in and hear what we have going in our state and nationally. If you haven’t paid your dues yet, get them in ASAP so that there is no problem when you come to participate in the fun events planned for us. See you at Marco!
