Casey Wingate, JFCA Sectretary

Hello everyone! This year I was honored to be elected as the new Secretary for the JFCA. My name is Casey Wingate and I am from Manatee County. I am a junior in high school and am homeschooled. A lot has happened in the short time that I have been Secretary.

In June, the Florida Cattlemen’s Convention was held at the Omni Champion Gates. They did an excellent job accommodating all of the Cattlemen, Cattlewomen, and Jr. Cattlemen. This year I was on Manatee County’s Quiz Bowl and Team Marketing teams. The convention is kind of like one big family reunion. You get to see people you may not get to see very often, spend time with the ones you do know, and get to meet people. There is lots of jokes, stories, competitions, informational meetings, and most of all FUN. I would strongly suggest to anyone who hasn’t been before to attend next year.

In July, we kicked off our 2015 Point Series Shows in Kissimmee with a record breaking number of cattle and exhibitors, over 300 cattle and 200 exhibitors. We have also had 3 more shows since then, Okeechobee in August, Manatee in September, and we were back in Kissimmee this month. For those of you who have not been able to be at one of these shows I would recommend for you to do so. It is an awesome time to hang out with friends and family while doing the thing that we all love, showing cattle. Next month we will be trying out a new location in Fanning Springs and then will be in Bartow in December. A special thank you to all of those who have attended and to those who are in charge of all of these shows.

In September, JFCA officer team attended the Ranch Rodeo Finals in Kissimmee to spread the word of the JFCA. Allyson Moore, Historian, and myself got the exciting opportunity to ride in the rodeo, carrying flags and representing the JFCA. We also conducted surveys for the Osceola Visitors Bureau and sold ranch rodeo t-shirts.

The JFCA has decided to collect items for Shoeboxes for Soldiers again this year. We had an amazing amount of items turned in last year. Thank you to all of the counties that helped out last year and to those who have already turned in items this year. There are still 3 drop off dates left this year. The next one will be in Fanning Springs on November 20th and 21st, then on December 3rd and 4th at the FCA Winter Quarterly in Melbourne, and lastly at the last point series show on December 11th and 12th in Bartow.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you this year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me at caseywingate@yahoo.com
