Oct. FCW Report

The State received much rain and then some thanks in part to Hurricane Hermine. By day 6 of rain – ENOUGH already! When I have to put on rubber boots to walk out to the pens and feed heifers, we’ve had too much rain; our place is saturated along with the entire State. I hope this month brings us a taste of fall and cooler nights.

In September we lost a couple of friends of the Florida CattleWomen. Matt Tavrides, the only current male member of the Florida CattleWomen’s association, and Will Putnam, a sponsor, both passed away in September after courages battles. These men were both very supportive of the Florida CattleWomen and our activities. They were always willing to help support our association and will be deeply missed. I would ask that you please keep their families in your prayers.

This month the Florida CattleWomen will be educating the athletic consumer about the importance of beef in a healthy lifestyle. The CattleWomen will be serving as a sponsor of the Savage Race on October 22-23, to be held at Little Everglades Ranch in Pasco County and a Gold Sponsor of the 4-H Milk Run to be held at the Old T.G. Lee Dairy in Orange County. We will have members representing Team Beef participating at both events as well as passing out literature and samples of beef to attendees. Photographs and rankings of the teams will be announced in the November issue. If you have any interest in participating in these events please let me know.
