May FCW Report

It’s hard to believe that spring has sprung and we are already into May.  Some spring showers have brought us greener pastures and calves on the ground.  May is the season that kicks off many celebrations to include National Beef Month, and also pays homage to National Barbecue Month.   As we begin the month start by giving that special Educator in your life as we recognize National Teacher Day on May 3rd with a Beef Gift Certificate instead of an Apple.  Cinco De Mayo falls on the first Thursday, May 5th and invite your friends and family to a Fiesta serving up some Confetti Beef Tacos.  Ready, set, serve Mint Juleps at Kentucky Derby parties along with Beef Tenderloin slices slathered with Henry Bain sauce and sandwiched between slices of doughy Beef Buns.  Mother’s Day should be a special time to celebrate our Mom’s and no better way to do that by serving her Beef – a Beef Tenderloin Steak with Blue Cheese Topping or on the lighter side, an Inside-Out Grilled Steak Salad.  Ending the month with National Burger Day on the 28th followed by Memorial Day on the 30th, so there’s no excuse why we cannot promote our industry by serving Beef entrees the entire month of May!  Let’s fire up the grill. (All recipes except Kentucky Derby day can be found at www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com)

The Annual Convention will begin on June 14.  Ladies – please remit your dues so that you may have a chance to win door prizes at the FCW Welcoming Reception (to include an Ice Cream Social & Fashion Show by Branded B Boutique) on Tuesday, June 14 at 2:00 P.M., and attend the FCW Membership Breakfast on Thursday, June 16 1t 8:00 A.M.  The Know Your Beef Shortcourse will be held again this year during the FCW Membership Breakfast.  FCW State dues increased to $25.00 on September 1, 2015.  The FCW welcome and appreciate any gifts your County Associations would like to provide for the Membership Breakfast.

The FCA Foundation is in need of silent auction items for the Annual Convention.  I encourage each County Association to please donate an item for the silent auction.  Donations are tax deductible and support the work of the Foundation.  Any questions, please contact Emily Hobby at erockinh@yahoo.com.
