January FCW Report

Welcome!  I am Denise Colgan, your new, 2014 FCW President. Born and raised in Okeechobee where my family has raised beef cattle for several generations, I teach Intensive Reading and ESE Social Studies at Sebring High School. I and my husband Jim have two daughters, Audra (27) and Cassie (22).

FCW_Pix2AshleyI really believe in the promotion of beef. I have travelled to Washington, DC and Houston, Texas for National Beef Cook-Off events. I am a member of ANCW and have attended the American National CattleWomen’s Summer Conference in Denver for the last two years.  Through the past four years I have discovered that I really enjoy talking to people about beef and its benefits to our bodies.
I would like to introduce you to the rest of our 2014 officers.  Your President-Elect is Reyna Hallworth from Dade City. Beth Hunt is our 1st Vice-President and lives in the Bartow area. The Treasurer’s position is filled by Kathryn Metcalfe-Thomas who is also a teacher in Highland’s County.  Our new secretary is Charlotte Rutledge.  After pursuing college and work in agriculture beyond FL, Charlotte returned home to FL in her career with Westway Feed Products.  Kim Cravey from Orange County has graciously agreed to be our Parliamentarian and try to keep us straight as we meet and make decisions.  Finally, one of our most important positions has been filled by Michelle Grimmer, our Chaplain.  As God is present in all of our lives, we are grateful to ask his help every time we meet to help us to make sound decisions.

As I close this month’s article I want to remind you of the great opportunities available to you in January and February.  Please come attend our 6th Annual FCW Clay Shoot on January 11th at Quail Creek in Okeechobee.  Of course we are having the NCBA/ANCW Nat’l Convention on February 4th – 7th in Nashville this year as well.  Don’t miss our booth at the Florida State Fair 2014 in Tampa from February 6th – 17th and volunteer to have the opportunity to talk to others about your favorite subject…BEEF!  Please contact Lindsay John (941-737-2938) to put your name or your county on the schedule.
