FCW Report

August greetings to everyone! Florida doesn’t disappoint with its weather and it seems to be feast or famine with the rain…just a few months ago we were dealing with dry ponds and no grass and now the rains are coming in full force and the ponds are out of the banks.

I hope everyone had a wonderful time at the FCW events during convention. A big thank you to everyone who worked so tirelessly to ensure that our convention was one of the best yet! Congratulations to Debbie Gill, who was selected as our 2017 Outstanding CattleWoman of the Year and to Sarah Childs, who won the $700 FALM grand prize this year! We were honored to have Penny Zimmerman, ANCW President, attend our entire convention and she was very complimentary stating that Florida has one of the best conventions around!

Thank you to all our members who attended the General Membership meeting. The attendance at that meeting was one of the highest we have had in several years and I appreciate all those who attended.

In early July, I had the opportunity to attend the Polk County Cattlemen’s Annual Dinner. What a wonderful event with a room packed full of Cattlemen and CattleWomen enjoying a full agenda, a wonderful steak dinner, and a cake auction to benefit their scholarship programs.

I also traveled to Denver in July to attend the ANCW meetings at the Cattle Industry Summer Conference. ANCW continues to make great strides to improve the organization. They continue to build their Leadership Development program which was developed to provide cattlewomen with an opportunity to attend a series of programs designed to improve their leadership skills in various areas. In addition, they continue to build and improve the Collegiate Beef Advocacy Program (which replaced the previous National Beef Ambassador Contest). Information regarding both programs can be found on the ANCW website.

Make sure that you have the next Quarterly Meeting marked on your calendar. We will be hosting it in my hometown of Plant City and look forward to seeing you on September 7th & 8th. For more information or details on the meeting, please see the calendar on the FCA website.

I look forward to attending a few more county meetings during the next month or two and encourage any other counties who would like me to attend their county meeting to answer questions about Florida CattleWomen or give an update on things happening at the state level to contact me at CGShowCattle@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
