April FCW Report
We wrapped up the Florida State Fair during which 40 FCW members from 7 counties volunteered time in the FCW Booth to talk with thousands of consumers and distribute over 5,000 beef samples during the 10 day event. In addition to steak samples, several counties highlighted their own beef recipes such as Beef & Black Bean Soup, Chimichurri Wraps, and Chimichurri Steak samples. Florida Cattlemen, Florida CattleWomen, the FCA Sweetheart and the Florida Beef Ambassadors were also on hand at the Fresh From Florida Breakfast as Beef Sausage was distributed to attendees from the FCW Booth.
BEEF Month/Ag Literacy Day
May is BEEF Month and more specifically, May 2nd is Ag Literacy Day. This is a great opportunity to get into the classroom and talk with students about BEEF. The Florida Ag in the Classroom website has a wealth of information available and you can download lesson plans. If you’re interested in reading to classes, the Florida CattleWomen have copies of “It’s All About That Beef” available for you to utilize for this purpose. If you would like a copy to read at a school, please contact me.
I’m sure that everyone has already started planning for the Annual FCA Convention! It’s sure to be as fun and exciting this year as has every year in the past! We have several fun events planned for FCW members this year and I hope to see all of you at our meetings!
As you attend your County meetings in the next month, look around your meetings….I’m sure that every county has a cattlewoman who goes above and beyond time after time. That is someone you should nominate for the Outstanding CattleWoman of the Year Award! The application is due May 1st and can be found on the FCW Website. Nominees will be announced in the June issue of the magazine and it would be wonderful to have a nominee represented from every county! For more information about this award or the application, contact Wendy Petteway at email@example.com.
Calling all County CattleWomen! New this year to the Silent Auction – the FCW President’s Choice Award! Pull your most creative ladies together and come up with a fantastic item to donate to the Silent Auction. All entries from county cattlewomen groups will be judged and the winner will be presented with a plaque during the General Membership meeting on Wednesday. Be sure to let Emily know your item is from your county cattlewomen so it will be put with the others to be judged. All proceeds from the Silent Auction benefit the Florida Cattlemen’s Foundation, so let’s find out who is the most creative! For questions or to obtain more information about the auction, contact Emily Hobby at (352) 427-4247.
Share with others all that your County CattleWomen have done this past year! Pull together a scrapbook (electronic or book form) for display at convention – let everyone else see how active your county is and what a great job you’ve done promoting beef! Counties who submit scrapbooks will be recognized at the FCW Breakfast on Thursday. For questions or to get more information about Scrapbooks, contact Jenna Tulp at firstname.lastname@example.org. I love to visiting county meetings and events, so if you have something coming up and would like me to come speak about things going on in the FCW, contact me at email@example.com.
Until next month! Michelle
